First Friday

The downtown area of Phoenix celebrates First Friday on the first Friday of each month in their art district. This is a cultural festival involving poetry reading, local bands, seeing the local masterpieces strolling through its art galleries. Irrespective of your tastes, you are sure to find something that inspires.

It was during the 1990s that the First Friday celebrations started. The event itself came up to provide an opportunity for the local artists to show case their art to the public in a city that is culturally starved. In more recent times, the attendance has swelled to over 10,000 people every time the First Friday is celebrated.

The event starts at 6 pm every First Friday. Admittance is free for the general public with entertainment and art colliding into a fun filled festival of family enjoyment. Latest artworks from the local artists are featured on the galleries and the dancers and local bands exhibit their talents on the streets.

Should you get interested in participating in the First Friday events, advance planning is essential. A minimum of three weeks notice would be needed and you can show your wares subject to approval.

If, on the other hand buying artwork is your forte, here is your good option because that is the occasion when the Art District has several artists displaying their saleable work, to the accompaniment of music, food and fun for all ages.

Summing up, First Friday acts as a stage for the local galleries and the Downtown cultural scene of Phoenix. It is the place where you can expect to meet old as well as new friends, rejoice in the innovation and preservation of a historical neighborhood. Visitors on Phoenix travel come from far and near to sample the new restaurants or simply people watch or even revel at some of the area bars.
