A municipal library system serving Phoenix, Arizona, Phoenix Public Library is operated by its city. With fifteen branches in operation at present throughout the city, it is anchored by the Library on the city's northern edge, called the Burton Barr Library.

The origin of the library can be traced back to as early as 1897 when a group of enthusiastic citizens joined hands to raise a library and started gathering funds. With the sudden volatile growth of the city Phoenix after the second world war, New branches were city wise added and in 1953 a central library was established, which was however replaced in 1995 by the Burton Barr Central Library.

The library today has molded itself with the changing times. Apart from being a haven of book lovers, the teen council of the Phoenix Public Library serves as a voice for issues of teenagers and promotes a positive relationship between the Phoenix Public Library system and the teens.

The various Branches of the Library include, Acacia Library, Century Library, Ocotillo Library, Palo Verde Library and Saguaro Library among others.

Members help in planning parties, provide help related to the reading program in the summers apart from working on service projects etc. The Library also supports parents and caregivers in helping their children retain reading and through well equipped spaces in the library, tools are provided to them to ready their children for reading.
