The Heard Museum in Phoenix is not world famous without a reason. This is one of the first centers of American Indian art and culture. The museum was founded in the year 1929 by Dwight B. Heard and Maie B. Heard and since then it is known as Heard Museum. The museum was set up with the intention of promoting and preserving the native cultures and art. The Museum was set up in the south western town of Phoenix. Along with the museum which has grown in size and in status so also has the town. Today the museum is world famous for its collection on native art and cultures. The museum is the living monument of American Indians' history over time.

Over the years the Heard Museum has grown in size and status. In 1983 the size of the museum doubled and the size grew to 78000 square feet. Again in the year the museum added another 50000 square feet of display area. The Added area included a larger book store a auditorium was added along with education center. After this expansion the number of galleries at this museum totals now ten.
On an average six to eight exhibitions are held across the year along with the permanent exhibits. The best part of these exhibitions is that one cannot miss them as if any one misses an exhibition then they can take virtual tour of the exhibition and gather knowledge and explore the exhibits. No wonder all this makes the Heard Museum a world famous for Native American Indian Culture.
