Its American Art collection consists of paintings and sculptures that dates from 1790 up to the 1940s. It features naturalism as well as the traditions of Europe. Some of the notable artists whose works are included in the collection include John Singleton, George Inness, and William Merritt Chase.
Different Asian cultures are represented by Phoenix Art Museum's Asian Art collection. Some of the works from this collection include Chinese ceramics, painting and tomb sculpture; Japanese prints and screens; and Buddhist art from Nepal, Tibet, Japan, India, China, Java, and Sri Lanka.
Art works from the 1950s to the present are included in the Contemporary Art collection. This section of the Phoenix Art Museum is the most active and still growing. The collection consists of large-scale photography, outdoor sculpture, and the traditional paintings.
