South Mountain Park Phoenix: A Fantastic Destination for Family Camping
The one of the largest urban parks in the country, South Mountain Park is truly a fantastic destination in Phoenix to visit with the family. It is popularly known as the "Phoenix Point of Pride". This manmade park preserves the natural habitat of native desert vegetation on a mountainous terrain of over 16000 acres.
The park has its highest point at a height of 1000 feet above the desert floor. The park is a perfect destination for family campaign and has scope of lots of exciting activities. Families can very well opt for picnics with great barbecues in here. The demand is so high that the Piedra Grandes Ramadas does not accept reservation; it is only on first come first serve basis.
Piedra Grandes Ramadas can accommodate groups up to 50 people. However they don't allow amplified music and alcohol permits are to be shown at the time of entry. However there are provisions of advance booking with larger Ramadas intended for a group of more than 50. If you are looking for Extreme Mountain biking then there is a 58 mile long track at your disposal.
There are several trails in the mountains ranging from 1 to 14 mile. There are guided trail rides available on horsebacks during the summer months only. The terrain is very rugged with desert critters and rattle snakes, so be extra careful. It is recommended to carry plenty of water with you because in the heat there is a chance of de-hydration.
