Every third Saturday starting from October through to April, there are free Family Bird Walks conducted here, which are organized by the Friends of Audubon Arizona Organization. These walks are once again available from October through to April.
Waterfall Trail (Northwest of Phoenix) - This is an excellent place for hiking as the surroundings here are easy-to-negotiate. The entire hiking trip will cover about 2 miles. Hikers and Backpackers have the opportunity of seeing and exploring Hohokam petroglyphs, when coming here.
Arizona Trail - Yet another scenic place for excellent Phoenix Hiking and Backpacking adventures. This trail takes you across to some of the most diverse areas in Arizona ranging from mountains, to canyons to desert areas. It does not begin in Phoenix, but can be accessed in the middle from this city. However, as a person looking for challenging hiking and backpacking venues, this is definitely one to consider.
Rio Salado Habitat Restoration Area - This area covers an enormous 600 acres and it preserves the habitats of the Salt River area. It's an excellent place to go hiking and backpacking because it takes you across some scenic location and enables you to discover the true beauty of Arizona like never before and enjoy its diverse ecosystems. There is a ten-mile trail system, which offers unique venues for hikers to explore.
South Mountain Park - This park area covers an extensive 17000 acres and it offers the perfect vicinity for activities like hiking and backpacking. There are 58 miles of trails here and they are even rated according to difficulty level. These trails take you across desert terrain and rugged regions and you get to see the wildlife and the vegetation at close quarters.
