South Mountain Park

The South Mountain Park Phoenix is the largest park in the United States and can compete with parks around the world in terms of its size and of course, its view. With over 16,000 acres of land that had been preserved and beautified, thousands of locals come here regularly to have a picnic, have a party or just go biking and hiking.

There are different areas in the park that had been developed but take note that these areas either come on a first come first serve basis or you need to make your reservations beforehand. There is the activity complex where you can rent the place for just $20 an hour.

It can accommodate up to 5,000 guests. Las Lomitas has 12 tables and can accommodate up to 200 guests. The big and little ramadas can accommodate 150 guests while the double ramada can accommodate 80 guests. The piedra Grandes can accommodate smaller groups on their Ramadas. It's on a first come first serve basis though and cars are not allowed inside the picnic area.

The South Mountain Park Phoenix is not just a place for picnic and parties, many cyclers go here to enjoy the view while cycling. Hikers love it here as well because of its 58 mile trail in its 10 different trails that can be as short as just a mile to as long as 14 miles.

Just make sure you have enough drinks with you as it may take awhile before you could grab a hold of one when you're in the middle of the trail. Watch out for those rattle snakes! It's not uncommon to see desert creatures here.

After all, it is the desert. So don't forget that you are in their turf and they will not bow down to you. Just give them their space and never provoke them. Give them their space and they will give you yours.

Want to ride a horse and enjoy the view of the South Mountain Park Phoenix? Come here to travel Phoenix during summer and you can get a ride. If horseback riding isn't your thing but you just want to drive through the trails and enjoy the desert view, hop on to your car and enjoy.

It's not going to be a pleasant right for those with nervous breakdowns though. The roads are narrow and long and you should drive with caution and don't go full speed ahead. Hikers and cyclers share the same road too so make sure to drive slow to avoid any accidents.
