
The Valley of the Sun: A Brief Intro to the Phoenix Metropolitan Area
Best known as the Phoenix Metropolitan Area, the Valley of the Sun is centered on Phoenix city and includes most of central part of the state of Arizona. By the statistics by the United States Census Bureau, the Valley of the Sun include all Maricopa and Pinal countries with its population increasing by 45.3% between the years 1990 and 2000. On July 1st, 2008, the population of the area was reported to be 3,251,876 thereby making it 12th largest Metropolitan area in the USA.
The Valley of the Sun is served by many controlled access freeways like the SR 51, Interstate 10 and SR 143. More other freeways are destined to be built by the year 2025 some through upgrades while others via construction. There is also a light railway system running for over 20 miles from the suburban Mesa via Tempe and to Phoenix. This offers access to the Phoenix Sky Harbor International airport while at the same time links four metropolitan areas Campuses.
In the year 2005, the Phoenix Sky Harbor International airport was rated the 14th busiest facility in the whole world and the 8th in USA. It had an approximated 41 million passengers using their facilities. This airport started operation as a commercial airline in the year 2004 and it currently serves over ten destinations.
In comparison, the Valley of the Sun (Phoenix Metropolitan Area) is larger than San Diego, San Antonio and Dallas. With a great transport system and great amenities, this is the one stop Metropolitan in the whole of USA for many visitors.
